GLOSSARY
GALLERY FORESTS - Natural forest growing on margins of rivers. It is usually a very dense forest that can
conceal from view small streams as the marginal trees grow and entangle their branches above the current.
MONOTIPIC - With only one representative. For example, a monotipic
genus have only one species.
SEGREGATION - Isolation. In this case, frequently species occur in the
same area but are found under very particular habitat conditions and in many cases don't mix.
SYMPATRIC - Taxa (most commonly species) occurring in the same region
or area. In the case of related species (as in this case, Cattleya species) varied degrees of hybridizing can be
usually found.
TAXA (Sing. TAXON) - Latin term for entities at any level, for example Families
(Sing. Family), Genera (Sing. Genus) or Species (Sing. Species - one species, five species, there is no such thing
like one specie as I frequently hear...)
