The work of MARIA CRISTINA MIRANDA

This page includes information on the work of Maria Cristina Miranda. She is a Botanical Illustrator who paints watercolors with the goal of precision and realism. In this page I will include samples of her work with some info about each particular painting. But first, a few words about her.

Maria Cristina was born in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and soon after getting her degree in Biological Sciences moved to Manaus where she started her Master's Degree course with an specialization on Plant Anatomy. Fascinated by the vibrant colors and interesting forms observed on species of the family Orchidaceae, and impressed by the work of Maria Werneck, Margaret Mee and Samuel Salvado represented in many works referring to orchids, she decided to trail the way of Botanical Illustration. Putting together her botanical knowledge and drawing and painting notions, she began practicing this form of Art always trying to represent the specimen before her with the best possible accuracy. Maria Cristina has been painting for more than twelve years now, always having in mind the same goals of true Botanical Illustration: precision and realism. Cristina has been working with the illustration of species in general for publications, prints and logos and more recently with the orchids of the genus Laelia that will be published in the book “The genus Laelia in Brazil by Francisco Miranda. She has participated on expositions in Brazil and Japan. Any questions, comments or price quotations for Cristina just send her an e-mail.
